Word scrambles to make, print and solve

Daily Scramble Puzzle

Ten new scrambled words every day, the same for everyone. Solve them here, or print the puzzle with its answer key.

The daily scramble puzzle is a free word game that gives you one set of 10 scrambled words to unscramble every day. Everyone who opens the page on the same UTC date sees the same 10 scrambles in the same order, so you can compare answers with friends. It runs in your browser on phones, tablets and computers with no sign-up, and nothing you type is uploaded.

The set starts with 3 easy words of 4 to 5 letters, moves to 4 medium words of 6 to 7 letters, and ends with 3 hard words of 8 to 10 letters. The words come from the site’s own general word lists, such as Animals, Ocean, Food and Space. If you want a word scramble of the day, a daily unscramble or an unscramble for today, a new set appears at 00:00 UTC. What you print is free to use in class or in products you sell.

How to play the daily scramble puzzle

  1. Open the page. Today’s puzzle loads by itself, and the heading names the day, for example “Word scramble for Sun, Oct 11, 2026”.
  2. Read the rows from top to bottom. They go from easy to hard, and the small label at the right edge says Easy, Medium or Hard.
  3. Type your answer in the box on a row, then press Enter or click Check. “Correct!” marks the row solved, and Enter also moves the cursor to the next unsolved row. “Not quite. Try again.” means keep working on it.
  4. If you are stuck, press Hint. The first press shows the first letter, the next press shows the first two letters, and so on.
  5. Press Show answer to fill in a row. That row counts as shown, not solved.
  6. Use Check all to check every box you have typed in, or Reveal all to fill in every row. The Show answers / Hide answers button writes each answer under its row without marking it solved.
  7. Watch the progress line, such as “0 of 10 solved”. When every row is solved or shown, the page says so and, on today’s puzzle, tells you how long until the next one.

Use the day strip at the top to open any of the 7 days before today. A tick marks a day where every row is solved or shown. Copy link to this day copies an address a friend can open to see the same puzzle.

When does the daily scramble puzzle change?

A new set appears at 00:00 UTC every day. The page reads your device’s clock and converts it to UTC, so in New York the new puzzle appears at 8 pm in summer and 7 pm in winter, and in Tokyo at 9 am. The date is read once when the page loads, so a tab left open past 00:00 UTC keeps the old puzzle until you reload it.

The last 7 days stay open. Each day in the strip opens at an address ending in ?d= and the date, and an invalid date, a future date or one older than 7 days shows today’s puzzle with a short note. Your answers, hints and solved rows for each day are saved in this browser only, and saved days older than the archive are removed automatically.

Is the daily scramble puzzle the same for everyone?

Yes. The set depends only on the UTC date, and the words are worked out in your browser from that date. No server sends them to you.

The word pool is built from about 1,400 words across 38 of the site’s lists. Holiday lists, kids picture lists, Bible and wedding lists are left out, so the puzzle is general rather than seasonal. Each level’s pool is shuffled once with a fixed seed and then read in order, 3 easy, 4 medium and 3 hard words per day. A word does not come back until the whole pool has been used, which takes more than 130 days, and two neighbouring days never share a word.

Each scramble follows fixed rules. It is never the word itself, and it is never another real English word made from the same letters, so EARTH is never shown for HEART. At most half of its letters stay in the position they have in the answer. BROWN might appear as RBONW. If you type a different real word that uses exactly the same letters, the page accepts it and tells you which word was the list word.

How do I solve a word scramble?

Start with the shortest word, because a solved short word gives you letters for the longer ones. Separate the vowels from the consonants, then try to build a word around the vowels. It often helps to write the letters in a new order on paper instead of holding them in your head.

Look for common endings such as -ing, -ed, -er, -ly and -tion, and common letter pairs such as th, ch, sh, st, tr and pr. If two letters keep sticking together, try them at the start or the end of the word. If you are still stuck after a few tries, press Hint to reveal the first letter.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my friend see a different puzzle?

Most likely one of you is on a different UTC date, or has an older day open from the strip. Check the date in the heading above the words: it should read the same for both of you.

Can I play yesterday’s word scramble?

Yes. The day strip lists today and the 7 UTC dates before it, and each one opens that day’s puzzle. Your saved answers for a day stay in this browser until it passes the 7-day archive.

Can I print the daily word scramble with the answers?

Yes. Press Print / Save PDF to open a puzzle page with a Name and Date line, the 10 numbered words with their letter counts, and an answer key page that follows by default. Under Print settings you can pick Letter or A4, turn on Large print, or turn the answer key off. To save a file, choose Save as PDF in the print dialog. Open an earlier day first if you want to print that puzzle.

Is it free and is anything uploaded?

It is free. Nothing you type is uploaded or sent anywhere. Your answers are saved only in your browser, so clearing your browser data or using another device starts fresh.

Is this a newspaper puzzle?

No. The puzzles are made by this site from its own word lists. They are not puzzles from a newspaper or any other publisher, and the page gives answers only to its own puzzles.

Can I use the printed puzzle commercially, for example on Amazon KDP or Etsy?

Yes. Everything you print here can be used for any purpose, including commercial use, royalty-free and worldwide, with no credit needed. That covers classroom handouts, a newsletter, a KDP puzzle book, an Etsy printable or print-on-demand. The one limit is that you may not copy the site, its code or its generator to run a competing tool or service.
