Word scrambles to make, print and solve

Easter Word Scramble

Unscramble Easter and spring words on screen, or print the puzzle with an answer key for class, church or the family table.

This Easter word scramble is a free, browser-based puzzle that mixes up the letters of Easter words so you can unscramble them. Choose words from the Easter or Spring lists, or type your own, then print the sheet or solve it on screen. There is no account or sign-up, and nothing you type is uploaded.

Easter word scrambles suit classrooms, Sunday school, egg hunts and family activities. The Easter list has 44 words, including bunny, egg, basket, chick, lamb, chocolate, lily, tulip, daffodil and bonnet. The Spring list has another 44, such as flower, rain, puddle, rainbow and kite, and “Mix of these” uses both lists together. You set the number of words, difficulty, hints and letter count to suit the players.

Everything you make here is free to use at home, in class or in products you sell, such as Etsy printables or Teachers Pay Teachers resources.

How to make an Easter word scramble

  1. Choose your words. Under Topic list, select the Easter chip, the Spring chip, or “Mix of these” to use both. To use another list, open the More lists menu.
  2. To use your own words, select My words. Type one word or short phrase per line, or separate them with commas or semicolons. Check the notice below the box, which lists any entries that cannot be used and why.
  3. Set Number of words, from 5 to 40 per sheet.
  4. For topic lists, set Difficulty (Easy, Medium, Hard or Any length). To fix the word length, set Letters per word to 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8.
  5. Choose Mixing: Shuffle all letters, or Keep first and last letter for an easier puzzle.
  6. Choose a Hint: No hint, First letter, First and last letter, or Number of letters.
  7. Turn on Word bank if you want the answers listed in mixed order under the puzzle.
  8. Set the print options: Worksheet title, Name and date line, Instructions line, Paper size, Columns, Font size, Copies, and Include an answer key page.
  9. Select Print / Save PDF. In the browser’s print dialog, choose Save as PDF to keep a file.

New puzzle gives you a fresh scramble and word choice with the same settings. Print answer key only prints the key without the puzzle. Copy link saves every setting and the puzzle number, so the same puzzle reopens later. Your own words are stored in the part of the link after #.

How does an easter word scramble with answers work?

An easter word scramble with answers takes each word, mixes its letters, and gives you a separate answer key to check against. The tool always makes the scrambled letters different from the original word, and it never shows a scramble that spells another real English word, so HEART is never shown as EARTH. Using the Easter list, BUNNY might appear as UNBYN, BASKET as KATESB, and DAFFODIL as ODAFDLIF.

For words of four or more letters, at most half of the letters stay in their original place when possible. Phrases such as “jelly beans” are scrambled one word at a time, and the space stays where it is. The answer key lists the scrambled letters next to each answer.

Is an easy easter word scramble for kids different from a harder one?

An easy easter word scramble for kids uses short words and more help. Set Difficulty to Easy (3–5 letters), choose First letter as the hint, and select Keep first and last letter so only the middle letters move. Medium words are 5 to 7 letters long and Hard words are 8 or more, so you can raise the level as players improve.

Length matters more than the letters themselves. An 8-letter word such as DAFFODIL is much harder to rearrange than a 4-letter word, even with the same hint. Setting Letters per word to a fixed number also keeps every word at the same length.

Can I solve an easter unscramble on screen?

Yes. Each word appears as letter tiles with an answer box. Type your answer and press Enter or Check. The tool replies “Correct!” or “Not quite. Try again.” Press Hint to reveal one more starting letter each time, or press Show answer to reveal the word.

Check all, Reveal all and Show answers / Hide answers work on the whole puzzle. The progress line shows how many words are solved, such as “7 of 10 solved”, and when every word is done it shows the time taken. Some other real words made of the same letters also count as correct. For example, typing ANGLE when the list word is ANGEL is accepted. This applies to 406 of the 2,135 single-word list entries. Words you type yourself are not checked against a dictionary.
