Use this tool to unscramble words for Spanish: the free Spanish word unscrambler turns scrambled Spanish letters into real Spanish words. Type the letters into the box and it lists every Spanish word that uses exactly those letters, updating as you type. It also lists shorter Spanish words that can be made from some of the letters, which helps when you are not sure how long the word is. Use it to check a scramble from homework, a worksheet, a word game or a crossword. It only knows Spanish words and does not translate them, so you will need a dictionary to find out what a word means.

How to use the Spanish word unscrambler

  1. Click the box labelled Scrambled letters and type your letters. Spaces and digits are ignored, so “a h n a z o i r a” works the same as “ahnazoira”.
  2. If you cannot read one letter, type ? in its place. You can use up to 2 blanks, for example C?SA.
  3. Read the first block, titled something like “2 Spanish words use all 7 letters”. These are the words that use every letter, most common first.
  4. Keep Also show shorter words made from some of the letters ticked (it is on by default). Open the closed section N shorter words to see words grouped by length, longest first.
  5. If a group ends with “Showing 60 of N”, add another letter to narrow the list.
  6. Results update as you type, so you do not need a search button. Press one of the Try: chips, such as AOPRT, to see an example, or press Clear to start again.

The Copy words button copies the words that use all your letters, one per line, so you can paste them into notes. The Copy link button makes a link that contains your letters, so the same search opens again later. You can enter up to 15 letters, including blanks.

How do I unscramble Spanish letters?

To unscramble Spanish letters, find a word that uses every letter exactly once, or a shorter word made from some of them. The tool does this by comparing letter counts with its word list, but you can solve by hand using the same idea.

Spanish words are mostly built from consonant and vowel pairs, so think in syllables such as CA-SA or ZA-NA-HO-RIA. Look for common endings: -CIÓN, -DAD, -AR, -ER, -IR, -O, -A, -OS and -AS. Spanish has few double letters, mostly CC, LL, RR and NN, so if the scramble has no repeated letters, you can usually rule those out.

Start with the least common letters, such as J, Z or any letter that appears only once. They leave fewer possible words. Once you have a likely word, count its letters against the scramble. A single letter left over or missing means it is not the answer.

Which Spanish words does the unscrambler know?

The list holds about 47,000 Spanish words, ordered from the most common to the least common, so likely answers come first. It combines base forms from a Spanish WordNet, with their regular plurals and feminine forms, and forms that occur often in real Spanish sentences, such as HABLAMOS and COMEMOS. Names of people are left out. The sources are on the credits page.

Do accents and the letter ñ matter?

No, accents and ñ do not affect matching. The tool ignores accents and treats ñ as n, so NINO finds NIÑO and CANCION finds CANCIÓN. You can type the letters without any accent marks.

The results always show the correct spelling with accents and ñ, so you can see the real word. When you write your answer for class, use the correct accents, because the spelling in the results is the one a teacher will expect. The tool treats CH and LL as two letters each, so type them as separate letters, as in any other scramble.

Frequently asked questions

How do you say unscramble in Spanish?

Worksheets often say “Ordena las letras,” which means “put the letters in order,” or “Descifra la palabra,” which means “decipher the word.” The Spanish phrase for scrambled letters is “letras desordenadas.”

Can I use it for Spanish class or a worksheet?

Yes. It works well for scrambled vocabulary such as numbers, colors, family words and food words. It cannot print, so write down your answers or copy them with the Copy words button. To make your own printable scrambles, use the related tools listed below.

Why is a word I know missing?

Not every Spanish word is in the list. Rare words, technical words and many verb forms are left out, although very common forms such as HABLAMOS and COMEMOS are included. The tool matches letters only and does not check grammar, so try the base form of the word, such as the infinitive for a verb, if the form you know does not appear.

Is it free and is anything uploaded?

It is free and needs no account. The word list loads once into your browser, and every search runs on your own device. Nothing you type is uploaded.

Does it translate Spanish words?

No. The tool only lists Spanish words that match your letters. It does not translate them or give their meanings, so use a dictionary to check what a word means.

Can it solve English scrambles?

No. This page only knows Spanish words. For English scrambles, use the Jumble solver listed below.
