Word Scramble Game
Unscramble as many words as you can before the timer runs out, or play a relaxed round with no clock.
This word scramble game is a free word jumble game that runs in your browser: unscramble each word before the clock runs out. You get a set of scrambled letter tiles, rearrange them into the correct word, and try to score as many points as you can. There is no account to make and nothing to install.
Each round uses one plain, single word from a topic you choose, such as Animals, Holidays, Science, or a list for kids. You can pick how long you have, from 60 seconds and 2 minutes to a relaxed mode with no timer. The game works with a keyboard on a computer or with taps on a phone, so it suits a quick break or a longer session.
How to play the word scramble game
- Choose a topic on the start screen. The default is Animals. Topics are grouped into Topics, Holidays, Science, Kids (3 to 5 letters), and Hard words and spelling.
- Pick a difficulty: Easy (3 to 5 letters), Medium (5 to 7 letters), or Hard (8 to 14 letters).
- Pick a mode: 60 seconds, 2 minutes, or Relaxed (no timer, 10 words).
- Check the best score and word count shown for your topic and mode, then press Start game.
- Tap a letter tile, or type the letter, to fill the next answer slot.
- To take a letter back, tap a filled slot or press Backspace.
- When every slot is full, the answer is checked automatically. You can also press Enter or select Check.
- If you are stuck, press Space or select Shuffle to reshuffle the remaining tiles, select Hint (-5) to fill and lock the next correct letter, or select Skip to see the answer and move on.
- Select End game when you finish. On the end screen, review the table of every word, then choose Play again, Change topic, or Copy link to these words.
Keyboard controls work on a computer, and tapping works on a phone. The scoring rules and keyboard use are explained below.
How do you play the word scramble game?
You arrange the scrambled letters into a single word, one slot at a time. Each word you solve adds to your total, and the game moves to the next one. Your goal is to solve as many words as you can before the timer runs out, or to build up a high total in Relaxed mode.
How is the score calculated?
A solved word scores 10 points per letter, minus 5 points for each hint you used on that word. A score never drops below 0. For example, an 8-letter word solved with 3 hints scores 65 points (80 minus 15). Skipped or unsolved words score 0.
A hint costs less than a skip: even with three hints, an 8-letter word still earns 65 points, while a skipped word earns nothing.
Can I play without a timer?
Yes. Choose Relaxed (no timer, 10 words) on the start screen. This mode has no time bar, so you can take as long as you need on each word. It ends after 10 words.
Timed modes, 60 seconds and 2 minutes, show a time bar that turns red when fewer than 10 seconds remain.
Keyboard shortcuts
Type letters to fill the next slot, and press Backspace to remove the last letter. Press Enter to check your answer and Space to reshuffle the remaining tiles. These keys match the on-screen buttons, so you can use either.
Is my best score saved?
Yes, but only in your current browser. The game stores your best score separately for each topic and mode, and it is never sent anywhere. If you open the page on a different device or clear your browser data, the saved best score will not appear.
Can I play with friends on the same words?
Yes. Select Copy link to these words on the end screen. The link contains a seed, so anyone who opens it gets the same words in the same order. You can then compare your scores on identical puzzles.
Frequently asked questions
Is this jumble game online free?
Yes. The game is free to play, and you do not need an account. It runs in your browser, so you can start a round right away.
What happens if I type a different real word using the same letters?
The game accepts it. You will see a message saying the word is also a real word and naming the list word. It scores the same as the list word.
Does the streak give bonus points?
No. The streak counts how many words you solve in a row, and the best streak appears on the end screen. It does not add any points to your total. A wrong full answer, a skip, or running out of time resets it to zero.
What do the Easy, Medium, and Hard levels mean?
They set the word length. Easy uses words of 3 to 5 letters, Medium uses 5 to 7 letters, and Hard uses 8 to 14 letters. Longer words are worth more points, because each letter adds 10 points.
Can I play the word scramble game on a phone?
Yes. You can tap the letter tiles to fill each slot and tap a filled slot to remove a letter. The layout works on phones and computers alike.
Are phrases or multi-word answers used?
No. Every puzzle uses a single plain word, so you will never need to arrange a full phrase or sentence.
What does the results table show?
It lists every word you played, with the scrambled version, the correct answer, whether you solved, skipped, or did not solve it, and the points you earned. Use it to see which words gave you trouble.
